is now urging the TV industry to increase its LGBTQ representation to 20% by 2025. And according to the panelists discussing the result of the media advocacy group’s annual TV report at United Talent Agency on Thursday, increasing the amount of on-screen inclusion is a matter of creating more off-screen inclusion as well.

The hope, she said, is that her show’s staff writers will become showrunners themselves, noting that she “had to create a TV show to see myself on TV.” “They realize that they’re building a world around them that their kids are going to see on TV, that it makes a huge, huge impact,” she said.

Good I can decease my viewing and support 100%.

Why is glaad demanding over-representation of the LGBTQ population? People of color need more representation in media. The LGBTQ community is already properly represented. It makes no sense.

....actually, LGBTQ are only a fraction of a fraction of 1% in the U.S. even tho in SF the number jumps to 1/3 of the population. So, while laudable that gays are now at 10% rep on TV, will it ever be enough for some advocates?

Make it 90% you cowards. We only need the occasional token straight best friend.

The entertainment industry is not a democracy that requires every sexual deviant cult to be represented. Create a political partt if you want govt representation. Keep your politics out of our movies and TV show. It sickens us.

They even have a percentage?!

Here we go again... The all inclusive, submissive and soft America! Gotta love it!!!

That's over-representation by a large margin. Of course, when you try to force creatives to include specific groups, they aren't included naturally and it comes off as tokenism. Does GLAAD want more token LGBT people?

So is a person's sexuality a higher priority than the person's acting talent? Or am I misunderstanding this ?

🙁 But aren't they only 10% in real life? I think the gay characters on TV and movies are already 20-30%. Only asking for a bigoted friend, who should know better than to question the demands of these heroes.

Latinos don't even get 20%

20%? That's an OVER representation compared to actual percentage of gay people.

GLAAD: LGBTQ Series Regulars on Broadcast TV Hit All-Time HighThe percentage of LGBTQ series regulars on broadcast television in the 2019-2020 season has reached a record high of 10.2%, according to GLAAD’s annual “Where We Are on TV” report… I feel like if you count screentime, love interests and etc, it's still fairly low because I HAVE NO GOOD GAY SHIPS TO SHIP RN But tv writing in general is at an all-time low. Maybe try prioritizing the writing and let 'representation' come naturally. Quality over quantity. Note to GLAAD and - The ratings of NCIS: New Orleans declined when they made one character a lesbian. Only 2-3% of people are LGBT. Hollywood is brainwashing America.
