BREAKING: Boris Johnson announces election saying ‘no-one wants it but we have no choice’

The prime minister announced his general election by saying neither he nor anyone else wants it.

Mr Johnson spoke outside Number 10 to say he had secured permission from the Queen to dissolve parliament today. The PM said the only alternative was ‘more dither and delay’ under Labour that would ‘turn the whole of 2020, if not 2021 as well, into a nightmare of two referendums’ on Brexit and Scottish independence. He told waiting media outside Number 10 today that electing Jeremy Corbyn would be ‘a horror show’ before adding: ‘Let’s get Brexit done for the whole of the United Kingdom’.

He said: ‘What we’re saying to the country is, now is our chance to get a sensible majority Conservative government.‘Day one we’ll put that deal back to Parliament, we’ll get it through in a few weeks from December, come out in January.Just under half an hour before the prime minister took to the podium in Downing Street his Welsh minister announced his resignation.

Kinda like I don’t want boris then 👍

He said wasn’t what he wanted, but he was going to have to go along with it:

Yeah, nobody wanted it except the man who after seeing his Brexit deal finally pass Parliament, binned it in favour of an election simply because he disliked a timetable.
