The Pains of Being Pure at Heart is calling it quits

are called it quits. Singer/guitarist Kip Berman broke the news to fans on Monday in a lengthy post in which he explained that his life has changed immeasurably since he founded the group in 2007 with keyboardist Peggy Wang, bassist Alex Naidus and drummer Kurt Feldman. Now, however, after four albums including 2017's"Pains was a distinct moment in my life.

And though Berman said some fans equate the group with a particular lineup, he said he always considered the group to be whoever he was collaborating with at the time, "because what animated the music was so consistent. But now, that strange something that inspired what we were able to create is absent. What has taken its place feels very different, and I have to express it in a different way.

Luckily for fans of the New York shoegaze band, Berman said he's spent the past year working on a new record that he hopes to release in 2020 to follow-up the Oct. 2018 debut Natvral EP,. To tide them over, he included a cover he recorded of one of his heroes, "You Look Like a Portrait" from Dear Nora's 2001 debut album.Listen to "Portrait" and read Berman's full statement below.
