, told me recently he’s decided to retire. I said, “John, I always thought of you as the kid in the office. Now you’re retiring. Maybe it’s time for me to retire.” And he said, “You’re too old to retire.”
I remember when I was starting, some friends of mine in the business would say, "It’s just a little picture — I’m going to toss it off and take the money." There were three things I was looking for; one, everyone was intelligent. You might have one success, but to have continued success, every one of these people were intelligent. Number two, they recognized that it’s hard work and they were willing to do it. People think of directing as glamorous, which to a certain extent it is, but it is also very hard, tough work and you have to be able to do that. The third is creativity — and that is the most difficult to judge.
One additional thing is, you might think of them as modern fairytales — so don’t think of them as a pure art form of cinema. Think of them as a combination of art and business showing a high level of craftsmanship with wonderful special effects and, to a certain extent, today’s version of fairytales.
To a certain extent my films stand on their own. But eventually they will be done again, I’m certain. He was a highly intelligent man. He’d gone to Yale and then to, I think, the University of London. He was very cultured, he was an art collector and an art critic and he used to give lectures on art.
This is clickbait and taken out of context. Stop with this BULLSHIT
ROGER FUCKING CORMAN
Seriously...
So we as a culture must stop looking at heroes. Most every movie has man vs man, man vs nature. Ironman and the blue meanie, Nebula, both ended up overcoming orig character traits and become hero and heroine. Why all the haters? Probably bc of the $ Marvel has amassed.
Read the article. The full text is not as inflammatory as the post hints
Try and follow last season plot of Luke Cage and tell me that was simplistic.
Even for super hero films, the story gets lost in the special effects at times. I like many of them, but it is the same film, over and over. Thus, simplistic stories that could be so much more.
I see no lies.
💰💰💰💰💰Thats what keeps studios going.
Make it stop. Please.
Simplistic and befouled by PC culture
Marvel films are still cinema - catering to a specific audience - movies come in many flavors and each film attracts different interests.
SidGrauman Come to think of it, most of Roger’s Vincent Price/Edgar Allan Poe movies kind of blended together and became immediately forgettable in the same way the Marvel movies do.
This is the correct take. Corman cements his legend (again).
Love Corman and I geek out whenever he does a cameo (love his deleted scene where he scolds Clarice Starling and her boss in Silence of the Lambs)
Really Roger?
High level of craftsmanship!!!
What did Harlan Ellison think of the MCU?
1. High praise from low brow 2. He’s right
DC, bitches... DC! 💪🏼 WonderWoman
Corman is absolutely pure class
brendanpetrizzo Now do theasylumcc movies. Wait, don’t...
Green screen cgi is not wonderful
That's my man!
I think we now need to dig up Stanley Kubrick's body and ask it for its thoughts on Marvel to finally end this fascinating debate on whether Marvel films are cinema.
I learnt more from this man, in my 8 months working for him, than any other!
Corman is pure class. (And a true Hollywood giant).
so still not cinema ...
