If you’re a bit mystified when looking at Our Legacy’s Pre-Fall 2020 lookbook, that’s by design. While the different styles and types of photos aren’t optimal in terms of seeing the garments, they communicate a sense of intrigue that is expressive of the season’s CSI-type theme. But apart from a pair of rave-wide jeans with reddish tie-dye “blood” stains, there was nothing gory about the lineup.
This clinical view fits with OL’s pared-down, no-fuss aesthetic. That said, Jockum Hallin and Nying’s brand of cool is deliberately imperfect. It’s also covert, as opposed to loudly expressive, in the sense that the designers lavish much time and thought on “the small details,” some of which, Nying explains, are only discoverable when the garment is worn.
Our Legacy started out as a menswear line and though womenswear gets stronger every season, it remains a less coherent offering. It just so happens that the killer look in the Pre-Fall collection—an oversized nylon-mix poncho-trench with slashed sleeves—was unisex. OL might well investigate that angle further.
