Heck no! Will consider they aren’t being intentional but if the seat goes back right in my knee Its my knee! not gonna assume they don’t know it’s my knee! Stop! Obnoxious and I will get the flight attendant!

Stop with this propaganda. The seats are made to recline!!

The advice in this article is to go and tattle to a flight attendant?! L O L

Just kick the chair until they give in. Anyone who has ever flown knows that reclining is a jerk move.

Start coughing on the back of their head.

every passenger has the right to recline their seat as long as not during mealtime. that is correct plane etiquette. if u are reclined on, u should also recline, hence preserving the amount of space between u and seat in front of u. u should know this

Yeah this doesn't work

This article is insane. The seats only recline like 3 inches, makes almost no difference to person behind. It’s as if the author hasn’t actually been on a plane, just making shit up.

Here's how one deals with those situations: STFU! Seats recline - deal with it. You don't get to tell the person in front of you they can't recline, because that's what an insane person does.

Why do they even recline, considering that it’s obviously going to encroach on the people behind?

Am I crazy here, or are you 100% entitled to recline your seat (that’s why it reclines) at any moment except take off, landing (cause the law), and meal/beverage service periods (out of courtesy) ?

I didn't click the link but I'm pretty sure the proper etiquette is 'if you don't want tiny economy space to be a problem for you, pay more for business class where your level of entitlement is specifically catered for.'

JoshMankiewicz I don't agree at all. The only etiquette required is an alert that you're about to recline in case something might be upset OTHER than the passenger. If reclining were an offense, the seats wouldn't be so equipped. No permission is necessary for wholly permissible actions.

PFWRIGHT If there’s not enough room to recline the seat there’s probably not enough room to exit the row in the event of an emergency; perhaps the airlines should be challenged on this for passenger safety.

PFWRIGHT Do you have the right to recline your airline AirplaneSeat? No, and here's why

I’m 6’3” tall and have no issue with anyone in front of me reclining their seat. It’s ridiculous that anyone on flights of more than two hours should have to sit with their seats in the upright position.

This argument continues to be idiotic. No one needs permission to use a function designed in the seat to be used. If you don’t like it, recline yourself or stow it with your overhead bag.

This is the biggest BS article I’ve read from Food and Wine Until the airlines stop putting refine positions on the seats it is fair game. Recently i traveled to Greece fro SFO with a torn miniscus. Recline needed. Passenger complained FA supported me :)

What is your advice on smelly passengers?

Actually this is really dumb advice. People who recline aggressively know they wont usually be challenged and also flight crews will avoid conflict. It is all up to you: use the directional air vents and ‘knee behind seat back’ to secure your space.

The seats are made to recline. End of story

Seats only recline 2 and a half inches. It’s really not a problem

This so such a weird thing, it’s not rude to recline a seat that has the option to recline, especially on long flights. It’s just part of traveling, especially in the cheap seats.

TwitItalianWine Stupid. If you weren’t allowed to do it, the chair wouldn’t recline. Just deal.

Chair's to blame....do not make them reclinable 😊

Perhaps seats should be made to not recline?

I’m sorry but I never recline my seat when I know that we are in the back of the bus. There is no space and anyone who reclines their seat is inconsiderate in my opinion.

They aren’t “rude”. They are allowed to recline their seat. As are you.

There is nothing wrong with reclining your seat. That’s why it reclines.

Sitting upright is incredibly uncomfortable on a long flight. I gotta recline.

But it’s not rude to recline your seat. 💺

Why do I need to ask to recline my seat? I paid the same amount as the person behind me. If we shouldn’t recline...albeit very minimal, then they should remove the options from the seat. Hate the game, not the player.

CillizzaCNN

These seats don’t lie flat. We are talking about a couple inches. It’s the difference between being able to sleep or not for the recliner and an encroachment of two inches of space for all but people with the longest legs. People just pretending it’s an issue

There is no such thing as a rude seat recliner

Everyone deserves a comfortable ride on the sky buses. Airlines have to stop with all the extra space in first class and cramming in people in the cheap seats nonsense. IT IS A SKY BUS AND ALL THE SEATS SHOULD BE THE SAME AND COMFORTABLE

This article is utterly ridiculous. Don’t be upset about someone using the feature given to them, which they paid for. Instead of getting upset and shitty with them, why don’t you get upset and shitty with the COMPANY who designs these planes with quantity over quality in mind?🤔

If everyone reclines their seats, everyone can sleep. Sure there's less leg room but a reclined seat is required to be able to sleep. I don't really understand why a person who pays for a seat that reclines shouldn't be free to use that feature without social castigation.

Why are we talking about this, instead of how we can hold airlines to account for making spaces far too small while including seats that recline? I realize we can discuss both, but we don’t. We only blame our fellow passengers. And all of this is entirely the airline’s fault!

'I’m not sure if you’re aware or not, but your seat is pushed on me' doesn't sound at all passive-aggressive.

Why do they even make the seats to recline that far if using the feature is a breach of etiquette? There’s almost never an empty seat anymore so you’re always going to be squishing someone… I never recline mine.

At 6’3”, i can cross my legs in such a way that my knee is in the middle of the seat in front of me and can exert a sufficient force to stop the offender from reclining at all. Sometimes they’ll look back at me and I’ll tell them, “Yes those are my knees you’re banging against.”

Helpful tips BUT aren’t you allowed that comfort? you’ve paid for the seat and this is part of the “amenity” if you will. Why should anyone move up? It’s a very fine line.

“Consider moving to a different seat” LMAO. You flown recently?
