Meet Imani Ellis, The Visionary Behind The CultureCon Conference

Imani Ellis is the Founder of The Creative Collective NYC, a community and creative agency dedicated to facilitating brave spaces for multicultural creatives, founded in 2016. Born in Ellis’ one-bedroom apartment as a means to foster meaningful connection, TheCCnyc has since parlayed into the fastest growing community devoted to creatives of color in NYC who are looking to cultivate relationships that go beyond the business card.

Dominique Fluker: Share your career journey. What led you to become an entertainment publicist, embark on entrepreneurship and to co-found The Creative Collective NYC?I’ve always wanted to work in entertainment and I gravitated towards New York because I wanted to work in television. I think it’s the epicenter of culture and I wanted to be a part of that world.

Fluker: The Creative Collective is a community and creative agency that curates spaces where creatives and entrepreneurs get unfiltered inspiration from influential people. Why did you find a need to create TheCCNyc?So many times, we find ourselves completely defined by our career and it doesn’t give much breathing room to the rest of who you are. I am a publicist but I also really love working on creative projects and there didn’t seem to be a place where I could do both.

Fluker: How did you and your team execute last year’s CultureCon? As a relatively new collective, you received an amazing turnout of influencers and reputable industry visionaries, like Spike Lee.Our team is made up of incredible individuals and together, we’re just unstoppable. By day, most of our team has fully-baked careers & they give up their spare time to contribute to building #CultureCon.
