Celebrating 20 years at the Lyceum theatre in London this weekend, the Lion King stage show has been seen by 16 million people. Guardian photographer David Levene was given exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the Disney production

• All Photographs by David Levene. The gala performance on Saturday 19 October 2019 at the Lyceum Theatre, is in support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Royal Academy of Music.

Saw the production at the Lyceum I think and it was a real fabulous night and shout out to the lyceumtheatre for proper visually impaired provision, great seats at a decent price.
