The grouper weighing about 100kg stayed close to the walls of the aquarium as children in traditional Indian attire and media photographers were preparing for the photography session on Thursday .
Two divers, who were underwater carrying a “Happy Deepavali” banner, kept shooing Krishna away when the fish kept swimming close to their legs. Krishna was named by an Indonesian fisherman who sold his catch to The Shore Oceanarium’s CEO Chew Chert Fong in 2012 through a middleman dealing in marine animals.
Chew said the fisherman from Sumatra, was first reluctant to part with his catch but later relented and requested it to be named Krishna.“Krishna is a friendly fish and likes to swim close around divers during feeding time, ” he said. Chew said the grouper is the most expensive out of the 30 marine species currently being exhibited at the oceanarium.
