Hornsey Town Hall is undergoing a restoration and renovation led by Far East Consortium and Make Architects. The regeneration of the site includes two new residential buildings, and a new arts centre, hotel and co-working space in the Hornsey Town Hall building which will be preserved to its 1930s decor and style
In 1930s Britain, local councils were having a heyday. From the late 19th century, the government controlled electricity, rail, post, telephone lines, energy, water, libraries and education, and developed a network of local councils, housed in town halls. Between the two wars, 26 town halls were built across London.
Right now, the town hall is undergoing a restoration, led by developers Far East Consortium, working in collaboration with Make Architects, to bring the whole site back to life. And to its 1930s glory – with reupholstered leather seating in the council chamber, restored signage, and materials such as the parquet and terrazzo flooring, and metal balustrading. Even the 73 clocks will be restored to working order.
