While some barriers for women moving into the highest military ranks have lifted, women still aren’t promoted at the same rate as male counterparts

Military tradition holds that when an Army general is promoted, he bequeaths his old rank from the shoulder of his uniform to someone he thinks should be promoted next—a practice that has historically allowed men to pave the way for other men.

At the promotion ceremony for Army Maj. Gen. Maria Barrett last year, however, she handed her old, one-star shoulder boards to her sister, who donned them this summer when she became Brig. Gen. Paula Lodi, making the two women the first sisters in the Army’s 244-year history to reach...

The military is a male dominated profession, as it should be.

Since both women and men have equal rights, they should work hard and smart to rise through the rank not seeking free promotional mileage.

Well, news flash! Women and men are different with a different built-in set of natural abilities. Men are biologically geared for military conflict and leadership. Some women have these abilities, but they are farther and fewer in-between.

You think thats bad? Give that low iq trump 4 more years and watch what happens : (

And they never should be...

Obstacles remain for everyone—it’s not supposed to be easy

An aspect the article didn't mention was the female oversaturation of some jobs that have less growth than say, the male dominated Infantry. While you will always need 100 infantry command sergeants major, you'll likely only need 10 admin sergeants major.

In a white male dominated society where privilege and connections are everything, to break through the layers of bureaucracy one needs guts, intelligence and perseverance along with the innate ability to calmly navigate various personality traits while pursuing your goal!!🧐

Promotions don’t come easy in the real world. They have to compete against their male counterparts & frankly, a lot of women aren’t willing to make the sacrifices for career that men are, & I don’t blame them. That may piss some people off but that’s just the facts.

Why are we so fixated on this thing. Some jobs are just so much better for both sexes to excel in.

So what? And guess what? They're not 'counterparts'. You create this fake category of 'counterparts' and then you 'reason' from there, IGNORING the primary purpose of the classifications.

🙄🙄🙄maybecits because Male counterparts have met more qualifications and have been in the military longer it's about the BEST man or woman..not a numbers game..

They also still can’t be drafted.

They can’t even pass the physical requirements.
