began its eight-season run on television and a brand new demountable classroom was delivered to Trunkey Public School.Trunkey Creek’s mobile classroom might not be the oldest in the state – there are 25 for which the date of manufacture is not recorded – but it holds a 43-year record for the ‘‘longest a demountable classroom has remained on a school site’’, according to the NSW Department of Education .
At present, Trunkey has two demountables. The one installed in 2016 will soon be removed, but the older one – which has been painted and given new floor coverings – will stay. A third are fewer than 10-years-old and 20 per cent are more than 20-years-old, according to DOE figures released in response to questions at recent budget estimates hearings.Demountables are designed for system flexibility. They can add space to a growing school, or replace classrooms during construction projects. Some provide specialist classrooms such as libraries, darkrooms and music rooms.
"There are advantages with double-storey demountables because they take up less of the floor space at school.
