Throughout her career, the star has made it a habit to uplift and support queer voices, through her lyrics, her music videos, and especially through her charitable actions. Now, The Trevor Project is ready to recognize her for her contributions.
On Wednesday , the organization announced that at their annual Los Angeles fundraising gala, TrevorLIVE, they will present Kiyoko with this year's Youth Innvator Award for her work as an advocate for young LGBTQ people everywhere. Kiyoko will be joining previous honorees like Tyler Oakley, Amandla Stenberg and Jazz Jennings.
"The Trevor Project knows how important it is for LGBTQ young people to see themselves and their identities represented by inspiring young artists like Hayley Kiyoko," said The Trevor Project's CEO and executive director Amit Paley in a statement. "Hayley embraces her identity as a strength, serving as a role model for LGBTQ youth around the world -- we're so excited to honor her at TrevorLIVE L.A. and celebrate 21 years of saving young LGBTQ lives.
Kiyoko herself thanked the organization for the recognition and for the work that they do. "Through songwriting and directing music videos, I have been able to share my personal experiences of love and identity with an audience that has struggled with mainstream representation in pop music over the years," she said in a statement. "I’m honored to be recognized by The Trevor Project, an organization that’s helping to bridge the isolation youth feel in crisis.
