“When I arrived in New York, I very much was a tomboy, and there was this raw, boyish energy,” Clare Waight Keller toldbackstage at Givenchy's Spring 2020 show. The designer gave a subtle nod back to the formative time in her life—and a building block for her signature streamlined aesthetic—with her new collection, weaving in bra tops, leather pencil skirts, and slim suiting.
“There was this girl in the ‘90s called Josie Borain who was a Calvin Klein model,” explained Palau. “I alwaysher hair. It was a boyish bob—soft at the neck in a kind of ’80s cool-boy way.” With the South African stunner’s signature crop in mind, he and Waight Keller nominated rising Slovenian model Maja Mihelic, who would be making her exclusive debut at Givenchy, to receive the transformational cut.
Radiating self-assurance as she hit the runway in a billowy floral print top and matching plastic shades, Mihelic made a convincing case for starting spring anew with a there’s-no-turning-back chop. The question is: Why wait until then?
