Actress Demi Moore has revealed that she was nearly killed when she consumed a mix of synthetic cannabis and nitrous oxide — commonly known as laughing gas and used by dentists to sedate patients — at a party in 2012.
Following the Tuesday release of her memoir Inside Out, Moore, 56, spoke with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America about the incident, during which she experienced a seizure in the presence of one of her three daughters. “Everyone else was seeing my body flailing, my daughter terrified that she was gonna see me die right in front of her,” Moore said.
“Within me, I was in a place that was thinking, ‘Wow, how did I get here. Isn’t this interesting?’ And then the next thought was, ‘I wonder if I can get out?’” Moore said.She describes the frightening ordeal as a “turning point.” “Something had to give. When you come up to those places you either go in or go out,” the actress explained.
Moore checked herself into treatment shortly thereafter. Her daughters and ex-husband Bruce Willis distanced themselves while she attempted to recover and take control of her life. She has now reconciled with both her children and her ex, with whom she remains friends.Synthetic cannabis is far more dangerous than its organic counterpart. The drug has become a health crisis in New Zealand, where real cannabis is prohibited.
