The grown-ups came alive through the course of the program, and by last night’s finale, all had measurable improvements in both their physical and mental state. The finale was bittersweet, though, as the program came to an end and the nursing home residents waved goodbye to their young charges. An epilogue revealed that many kept in touch with their four-year-old friends, catching up for dinners and in one case even regular piano lessons. Then, the final seconds of the episode delivered a shock to viewers:
