Low profile but quietly efficient, González merged film distributor DeAPlaneta’s Antena 3 with La Sexta in 2012, forming Atresmedia Group, one of Spain’s biggest media congloms targeting family audiences with TV dramas, movies, newscasts and light entertainment.
Looking beyond ad revenues, González has sought to prime content creation and international expansion, leveraging hit series “Grand Hotel” and “Velvet” to drive up pay-TV subscribers abroad with film production. Atresmedia Cine, the group’s movie-production arm, snagged a strong 32 percent of Spanish films’ domestic box office in the first half of 2018. In TV, González launched Atresmedia Studios in 2017 to produce series for new third-party players.
