Dawn Ostroff, Spotify's chief content officer, says she plans on making hundreds of original podcast series next year as part of a strategy to expand the streaming platform's podcast offerings. The company aims to have 20% of the listening on its service be non-music.

“It was 100% the result of her commitment to programming for young audiences and offering a genuine alternative to what those viewers were getting on traditional broadcast platforms,” Walden said.

She joined Spotify in August of 2018 and hit the ground running. Although she oversees content partnerships in music and video, growing podcasting has been a top priority. Gimlet executives believed joining Spotify would allow them to gather more data on listeners and make it easier for consumers to discover their podcasts, said Matt Lieber, Gimlet’s co-founder and managing director.

“The amount of content that we can make is endless,” Ostroff said. “Seeing how many of the existing talent in the Hollywood community and the news community are interested in migrating toward this new medium, it really makes it a lot easier.”

Our Dungey State University podcast, “Deeper Dive” is on Spotify!

She was on such a great panel at sxsw last year discussing this - would love to hear from bartcoleman this time and Spotify comedy, how it’s changing the playing field for experienced comics and fresh voices alike.
