The news was announced at a press conference at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville on Wednesday afternoon , with Travis and his wife, Mary, in attendance, and Dupre on hand to perform a song. The tour, which launches Oct. 16 and runs through Nov. 2, will reunite Travis’ band and marks the first time the band has performed together since the country legend’s stroke in 2013.
“[The road] is definitely a place that Randy felt most at home with his fans, and that’s what brings him so much joy,” Mary told the room of reporters and industry professionals at the museum’s Ford Theater. “We’re so honored that James Dupre will come and serve as a stand-in. He delivers his music with the same depth and devotion and demeanor as Randy does.”, where he played the son of a country singer, portrayed by Travis. Mary calls the collaboration a “full-circle thing.
“We’re looking forward to it. We want it to be a lot of fun. We want it to be a family affair,” she says. “Our destination is the same, but our road is a little different getting there.” Ahead of covering Travis' 1986 hit "Diggin' Up Bones" alone on acoustic guitar, with Mary and Randy seated on the stage beside him, Dupre shared his excitement to be part of the trek. “The world was stripped of Randy’s iconic voice and I think it’s still important for people to go out and hear his music and see him. I’m honored to be the one to be able to be a part of that.”Oct. 16 - Indianapolis, Ind. @ The MuratOct. 19 - Gulfport, Miss. @ Island View CasinoOct.
