Police in Portland took me to the scene of the crime and showed me the exact spot where Russell Courtier’s baseball cap was found on the night Larnell Bruce Jr was struck down. The cap, emblazoned with the letters ‘EK’, became central to my investigation and the prosecution. Shortly after arrest police discovered the same ‘EK’ motif tattooed on Courtier’s leg.
