That's because Swedish furniture giant Ikea has teamed up with multi-room sound system pioneer Sonos to produce a new series of devices called Symfonisk. But they're not just speakers – one is a table lamp and the other is a bookshelf. The Symfonisk lamp speaker costs the same as the Play:1. In comparison, Amazon's Echo speakers, which run with the Alexa voice assistant, cost US$49 to US$100 .
Sonos, with seventeen years of experience in the multi-room audio field, has a global fan base. Any doubts about whether a US$110 speaker can sound good disappear when the first notes are played. The sound is clear, rich in detail, and balanced with plenty of bass.
