When you hear about the victim of a con, how do you feel? Sympathetic? Judgmental? This week, Roughly explores why we glorify con artists and shame victims — and how that makes us more susceptible to being swindled.

If you're the kind of person who thinks you can't be conned, that assumption may make it harder for you to recognize when you actually are being scammed. We speak with professional poker player and author Maria Konnikova about how con-artists get inside the stories we all tell ourselves, about ourselves. Then we go to an international multimillion dollar scam in Costa Rica, where a master of the con meets his match... the IT guy.

Roughly Epstein

Roughly 1./ Living to see retirement in old age with a pension is a younger concept than America, so as people used to have means to support themselves while in lack of a suffrage rich people were loathed, the idea of getting away with something is what powers Robin Hood.

Roughly Interesting question -- we live in the country where more than half of population thinks that they were conned when President Trump was elected! How do we feel about it? -- I would say ambiguous.
