The British Academy event becomes the first major film awards ceremony to honor the casting community.

The British Academy is adding a casting category to its BAFTA film awards in 2020, organizers unveiled on Wednesday.

The new casting award will also be added to the BAFTA TV Craft awards, marking the first time BAFTA has simultaneously introduced a category across its film and TV honors. Another tweak being made is for "Films Not in the English Language." For the first time, distributors will be able to release their submitted film in this category up for four weeks after the awards ceremony, thus avoiding the usual bottleneck and giving the titles a better chance at being seen by the public.

Worthy and deserving some of the most successful stars in Hollywood and the world have been discovered by casting directors and their teams and their talent is invaluable to award winning or blockbuster films

I can’t wait to see who wins. Imagine their inbox the day after 🤭

This is fantastic news & about bloody time too... IMHO, it is TOTALLY the casting that makes or breaks a production. You can have an incredible script, amazing director, enormous budget & awesome production values but none of that will mean a thing if you get the casting wrong...

Absolutely right, a splendid category addition that is so well deserved! 🙂

This is great news, casting directors do a brilliant job, so glad they are finally being recognised.

Now all we need are 'best stunt coordinator' and 'best stunt actor'

About 3,000 years too late but well done.

Netflix is often singled out for not giving its films wide theatrical release but many other 2019 BAFTA nominees didn't get wide theatrical release including Cold War 79 screens Free Solo 82 screens RBG 21 screens Three Identical Strangers 22 screens and Shoplifters 43 screens?

Fantastic news - at last!
