“Exit” tells the story of Yong-nam , an unemployed man, and his crush in college, Eui-ju . During his mother’s birthday celebration, a mysterious gas envelopes an area of Seoul and the two use their rock-climbing skills to flee the disaster.
The movie has topped the Korean box office in the last seven days since its release on July 31. According to the Korean Film Council , “Exit” has sold 3.75 million tickets and grossed $25.64 million for its first week in theaters from July 31 to Aug. 6. It topped the box office on its opening day with 490,001 tickets in total admission and gross of $2.61 million.
For the weekend box office from Aug. 2 to 4, “Exit” amassed $14.87 million with 2.04 million tickets sold. Its biggest haul was on Aug. 3 when it sold 791,941 tickets and earned $5.78 million. The Park Seo-joon starrer “The Divine Fury” placed second during the weekend with 594,149 tickets in sales and gross of $4.34 million.“When I first read the script, I wondered whether I would be able to handle the physical challenges. I thought that it would be better if I exercised regularly, so I continued to work out after accepting the role,” she said, according to Ilgan Sports and Korea JoongAng Daily.
