.Rapsody's 'Ibtihaj' features D’Angelo & The GZA

Grammy nominated rapper Rapsody is back with the empowering lead single off her upcoming album, "Ibtihaj," featuring D’Angelo and The GZA, is named after Ibtihaj Muhammad, a member of the United States national fencing team known as the first Muslim American woman to wear a hijab while competing for the US in the 2016 Olympics.

Fittingly, the song’s lyrics are an ode to fearlessness and standing by one’s beliefs: "I think like a billionaire, I spend less than I make/Strong minded, I should bench way more than I weigh/Women been leading the way, since Roxanne Shante/And the Unit had Flava and Jay had Marcy neighbors that waved."

The accompanying music video, with appearances by The GZA, Mary J. Blige and Roxanne Shanté, plays scenes of New York and its Muslim women of color. The end shows support for the ongoing Sudan revolution. are inspiring, and I wanted to do my part in celebrating these women in the best way I know how,” Rapsody said in a statement on her upcoming album. “I want to not only help tell these stories but help further each woman’s legacy and spark curiosity in people to learn more about them.
