Prosecutors Drop Sexual Assault Case Against Kevin Spacey

Prosecutors in Massachusetts have dropped charges of indecent assault and battery against Kevin Spacey, after an accuser who claimed the actor groped him at a bar in 2016 refused to testify about a missing phone which Spacey’s lawyers said could prove his innocence.

Speaking in court earlier this month, the accuser said that he lost the phone which he had used on the night of the alleged assault - a piece of evidence which Spacey's lawyers said could have proved the actor’s innocence. They accused the alleged victim of deleting and manipulating text messages.against self-incrimination, refused to testify.

The accuser claimed that Spacey gave him alcohol and groped the then 18-year-old at a Nantucket bar in 2016 where he worked. He claimed he went to take a picture with the Oscar winner at the end of his shift, after which Spacey tried to persuade him to come home with him. Mitchell Garabedian, lawyer of the accuser who was unnamed, said that his client had shown an “enormous amount of courage under difficult circumstances.”
