Following the “no-show” of the eight opposition councilors at a special session called by their new mayor, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said the issue on who will lead the appropriations committee floated and marred the session.

In a television interview, Zamora said he called for a special session to discuss two pressing matters: his authority from the city council to sign the checks for the salary of city hall employees and the chairmanship of the appropriation committee.

Bernardo already served for seven terms as a councilor and led the appropriations committee before. He also worked for the past San Juan mayors, namely Jinggoy Estrada, JV Ejercito, Guia Gomez, and now to Zamora. “Pagpasok ko po ng session hall, ‘yung mga minority and the vice mayor [were] inside the chamber sa isang kwarto and then kami pong majority nilipat po kami sa kabilang kwarto,” Jana said.Jana said they asked for a deferment since the main agenda of the special session is to give Zamora the authority to sign checks for the salary.
