are getting ready for what is arguably going to be the most boundary-breaking show during Couture Week.Philipp and Rens regularly work as stylists and consultants for brands, doing projects for Hugo Boss andamong others. Most recently, the fashion designer duo had their first formal show during Paris Couture Fashion Week in fall 2018. With a vision of fashion that is first and foremost positioned as fashion therapy, they also refer to themselves as “Seeking Design Well-Being” .
The fact that Schueller de Waal chose to present during Couture Week, let alone in this format, is a major statement. Take, for example, the fact that some of the biggest brands such as Chanel and Dior spend massive budgets on creating surreal sets. Chanel, in fact, created an entirefor its couture show this season, and has even used real icebergs as part of a temporary fashion show set, a move that was costly in more ways than one. It’s also a statement about luxury.
Using belt loops and straps, each piece could be worn in various ways, allowing the wearer to style every look in multiple ways. The duo even collaborated with textile artistto airbrush purple pigments onto the dead-stock fabrics. Finally, the label also scavenged scraps of couture fabrics that were sample swatches or leftovers and used them as design features.
