Borchetta said he saw the 2018 negotiation about what would happen to Swift’s masters as a matter of the future of his business. In a Sunday post on, titled “So, It’s Time for Some Truth,” he described a potential new contract with Swift that would have allowed her to earn her masters back over time. “It was also all I could offer as I am responsible for dozens of artists’ careers and over 120 executives and their families,” Borchetta wrote.
In her own post, Swift claimed that she was never given an opportunity to purchase her masters before the company was acquired by Braun. Why didn’t they offer her part ownership of the company? After her building it’s profit that much. It should be like law firms, an artist that basically is the reason everyone gets paid should be a partner in the business.
locking her into this type contract to work to earn her masters per new unit is heinous. The company should have a duplicate for investment in the artist. The artist should have the originals with a license to the label for distribution and that expires after debt/contract paid.
