Rami Malek is reassured by the film director over his concern playing the lead villain as a caricature of a middle east terrorist due to his Egyptian ancestry. FMTNews RamiMalek

Rami Malek accepts the Best Actor award for his role in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’

The US actor, who won the Oscar this year for his performance as Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody”, said he feared his Egyptian ancestry could lead to the part being a caricature of a Middle Eastern terrorist. “‘That’s not something I would entertain, so if that is why I am your choice then you can count me out’.Malek, who was born in Los Angeles in 1981 to parents who immigrated to the United States from Egypt three years earlier, has said he identifies strongly with his Egyptian heritage.“These are my people. I feel so gorgeously tied to the culture and the human beings that exist there.”

However, the as-yet untitled film has been besieged by problems, most recently with Craig undergoing minor ankle surgery after an injury on set.
