Tainy recalls his first date, talks being a young music producer & more in the new GrowingUpLatino episode

One of the things he’s most proud of is being a young music producer, and he thanks Puerto Rico for that. “Growing up in Puerto for me is a blessing,” the 29-year-old producer says in this week’s “Growing Up Latino” episode. “I know you feel proud wherever you’re born in, but it gave me my passion, which is music, and it gave me an opportunity to show what I can do: being able to do that at such an early age and being able to call myself a music producer.

As part of this week’s “Growing Up Latino” episode, Tainy opened up about many things, including his first date to the movies in Plaza las Americas , his favorite Spanglish slang being “Dale!” because he says it on the regular, and splurging on clothes. “It’s hard, but I gotta do it,” he admits of his shopping addiction.

Tainy was born in Puerto Rico but went to grade school in Connecticut, which explains how he learned English. “Everything I wanted to watch on TV and the music I wanted to listen to was in English,” he says. His favorite childhood memory in Puerto Rico was hanging out with his family, especially all of his cousins. “Growing up in Puerto Rico was special because after we grew up, everyone just separated and moved to different places so it’s definitely something that I cherish a lot.”2006 track “Bandolero.” “I think that’s a good one. In this generation, we grew up with urban music and that’s what we listen to. So I had to go with that one,” he says.
