The First Trailer For The Downton Abbey Movie Includes A Major Royal Arrival

. Per the newly released trailer, the film is set in 1927, roughly 18 months after the television series concluded, and the aristocratic Crawleys are in the midst of yet another domestic crisis: King George V and Queen Mary are due for a visit and precisely no one is ready for the royal arrival. Enter Carson, who graciously agrees to resume service and help Lady Mary with the preparations.

For those not quite up to speed on their royal history: King George V was Queen Victoria’s grandson and reigned from 1910 until his death in 1936. He married Mary of Teck, the future Queen Consort, and their children included King Edward VIII, who later abdicated the throne in order to marry glamorous American divorcee Wallis Simpson, and King George VI, who became the reigning monarch after his brother stepped down.
