'Alien' turns 40: How the classic changed the game for women in action films.

Sigourney Weaver recently told Reuters ahead of the 40th anniversary of"Alien" that she initially was excited about the project, as it was a"small film" and had a"tiny cast."While the film may have had humble beginnings in 1979, the impact on the Ridley Scott-directed feature was enormous -- and still resonates four decades later.

In the film, Weaver stars alongside Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton and John Hurt, as crew members aboard a commercial space ship headed back to Earth, before bumping heads with an alien so deadly and ugly that it would give even Rambo nightmares. As it's always about the bottom line in Hollywood,"Alien" showed producers what a leading lady in this type of role could bring in.

Cumming cites an earlier quote from Weaver, which read,"The writers were especially smart in that they didn’t turn Ripley into a female character. She was just a character, a kind of Everyman, a young person who’s put in this extraordinary situation."

Every male in the room fell for Ripley.

Umm Wonder Woman

If you go to the conventions and hear them talk about it, you find out a lot if the movies success is owed to her.

Wow, I didn't realize it was that old. I gotta watch it again sometime today. Loved Ripley's role. I watched a playthrough of the game Alien Isolation and I was so hyped to hear Ripley's final speech from Alien in the beginning of the game. 😍

And cats

Flerken!

Maaan I'm getting old! 40 years already!

What about the cat? Are cats getting equal pay? Equal quality roles That's the real question.

Love that movie! Unfortunately it brings back nightmares of growing up on Krepsheen!😖

Captain Marvel !!!! Nuff said...

Dejar las decisiones en manos d otro , puede parecer confortable. Pero en el mundo civilizado seguimos creyendo en la división del trabajo ⌚

Bewbs

Her singlet scene turned a few adolescent boys knees a trembling.

Holds up well to this day; Ridley Scott is a genius. Amazing cast, brilliant “haunted house in space” motif, Jerry Goldsmith’s score, H.R. Giger’s haunting artistic visions realized on film. Tense and atmospheric, with a feeling of impending doom draped over the claustrophobia.

Game

Nasa

Actually, the real changed occurred in the next film in the series, Aliens.

Changed the game for women in action films is right, Ripley was all over that role in 'Alien'

Or cats. Women were always active (ever been to a birth?) It seemed to me that there was here a rebirth ('rebirth'?) of acts which women demanded because men were as deformed as the alien. She was ahead of her time: men will take their place; witness Seinfeld!

But you said there were not women action movies. Which is it?

nice pic girl

Goddamn..

Correction “Caucasian' women

Love Ripley!!!

It didn't because Alien isn't an action movie. It's sequel Aliens is & that changed the game for women in action films even if no woman has done it better than did Weaver since.

Wait, I was told there were no women heroes before Rey and Captain Marvel. So many mixed messages 🤷‍♂️
