Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah on Sunday said the death penalty would not be imposed for incoming legislation prohibiting gay sex, seeking to temper a global backlash led by celebrities such as George Clooney and Elton John.

The small Southeast Asian country sparked an outcry when it rolled out its interpretation of Islamic laws, or sharia, on April 3, punishing sodomy, adultery and rape with death, including by stoning.

Typical. When the dollar decides. Shame 🤨🤬🤬

He hasn't 'dropped' it. He has said that it won't be implemented. Don't be fooled by this.

Seems like he realised that it was bad for his business, then changed his mind. Hoping the business can recover. Is the death penalty the only law he had that attacked LGBT?

Can't they use their influence to do the same about trump. Surely America would be grateful!

Ok, still 2 or 3 centuries to go before he can join the 21st.

I think that tells me all I need to know about the world I live in right now. Sultan backtracks on murdering humans who make different life choices because.... Actor and Singer.. 😳 Please tell me it was more than that.. Like maybe he realised he was batshot crazy or something ✌️

So no death penalty, just life in prison! I guess the gays are celebrating now at the moderate response of Muslims?
