Derry Girls star Saoirse-Monica Jackson says show's echoing of present political turmoil is 'accidental'

Derry Girls star Saoirse-Monica Jackson said it was “accidental” that the hit show’s storyline has echoed the political turmoil in the country recently.

Ms Jackson told the Irish Mirror: “I think Derry Girls definitely mirrors the political situation at the moment. I do think that was accidental. Despite the pressure of following such a successful opening season, the actress had no doubt that whatever Derry born writer and creator Lisa McGee penned for season two would be just as big of a hit.

“Luckily, it takes the pressure off us the fact Lisa is such a great writer and we have no doubt before these scripts came in and especially after we have seen them. So it is a privilege to work [with her].
