Noughties star Ashanti will headline a UN concert with her back catalogue of bangers including Baby, Foolish and Always On Time to tackle awareness of plastic pollution.The 38-year-old has spoken out about the importance of tackling plastic pollution at the United Nations headquarters in New York, and revealed she will play at an upcoming Play It Out concert to raise mindfulness of the ongoing environmental disaster.
‘I had such a good time but coming back and understanding the problems we are having with plastic in our oceans, it’s very disheartening.’‘We are killing the planet and killing the animals and it’s all our fault, we have to fix it,’ she added. ‘We just don’t think about “oh I’ll just use a plastic straw” then throw it out five minutes later, or a plastic carrier bag, we don’t realise how that will affect us.’
