On Wednesday 17 July, the Television Academy in Los Angeles announced its annual Emmy nominations, recognising the best in television over the past year. Among the shows nominated is hugely successful Netflix series Baby Reindeer, with the show and lead actor Richard Gadd both receiving recognition.
The series became one of Netflix’s most streamed dramas following its release on 11 April. Based on Richard Gadd’s one man show and his own experiences, the seven episode show told the story of aspiring comedian Donny , who meets a woman named Martha while he is working in a London pub. He attempts to cheer her up and she develops an attachment to Donny that causes her to stalk him both in person and online for years.
British-set TV series The Crown and Slow Horses are also in the running for best drama series, along with game adaptation Fallout, period drama The Gilded Age, behind the scenes drama The Morning Show, action comedy thriller Mr and Mrs Smith, Netflix sci-fi series 3 Body Problem and the acclaimed adaptation of Shogun.
