The movie is called "Heretic," and it isn't in theaters until November 15 of this year, but an A24 movie trailer was recently released. Online, it said the movie is about two young missionaries who get trapped inside a man's home.
"I was realistically horrified that someone would make a movie about torturing missionaries," Angie Cauble said. She's in a private Facebook group dedicated to helping moms of missionaries."I think there's some fear that there will be copycats or that this will be a jumping off point for people to be inappropriate with the missionaries. That makes me nervous as the mom of a missionary, who has already had experiences with people who are aggressive," Cauble said.
Meanwhile, mom Karyn Labrum said, "I'm not nervous about my son being on a mission, as far as being kidnapped. But first of all, my son is 6'4" and 240 pounds.""Like is he eating enough, is he getting enough sleep, and how is his general health," she said."There's already stuff out there, so why are we adding another level of oh this is something we can do as well," Cauble said.
Labrum said, "Other religions are ridiculed and made fun of, so it seems appropriate that they would be doing it for ours as well."KUTV reached out to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints about the movie, but did not hear back as of Tuesday evening.
