Police have released images of two men they want to speak to over an alleged tomahawk assault that played out in front of customers at a shopping centre near the NSW-Queensland border on Thursday. Emergency services were called to Tweed City Shopping Centre on Minjungbal Dr in Tweed Heads South following reports several people had been involved in an altercation about 3.30pm and a 25-year-old man had been hurt.

“A tomahawk has been seized by police for forensic examination,” authorities said on Friday amid an appeal for help tracking down two men they believe can help with their investigation. One was described as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, aged in his 20s, with a medium build and short dark hair. He was wearing a black jacket, grey pants and green Nike shoes. The second man was described as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, aged in his 20s, with a medium build and long dark hair.
