Speaking from experience, it’s very challenging to start reading comic books, you can’t just purchase one and away you go. Often there are very deep backstories. Combine that with the fact that you could end up collecting 4 series, 4 times a month, at close to £3 each.

Because comic books lack any cohesive continuity making them frustrating for fans and confusing as he'll for new readers. Also they've been slow to really properly join the digital age.
