A portable blender sold nationwide has been urgently recalled over fears it may overheat and catch fire. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s Product Safety issued a recall notice for the BlendJet BlendJet 2 portable blender on Friday after injuries were reported. The recall states there is a risk the metal blades “may break while the blender is in use” and the blender “may overheat and catch fire when charging or while in use”.
“There is a risk of serious injury from choking or lacerations if broken blade pieces become mixed with food or drinks and consumed,” it said, as well as a “risk of serious burn injuries or property damage if the blender overheats or short circuits and catches fire”. “Fires with associated burn injuries and property damage have occurred.” Customers are advised to “stop using the blender immediately” and check their serial number here to see if a unit is impacted.
