If you stuck around for the Fourth of July, you’ll be treated to a big week in new exhibits — plus a final chance to catch fireworks in case you missed the ones on the National Mall on Thursday. Get crafty at a “Bridgerton”-themed soiree or a gallery-inspired crochet night at the Phillips Collection, catch live performances at Fort Reno’s concert series or the Black Cat’s ode to punk rock label Dischord, or explore French filmmaking at the National Gallery of Art.
Mark Bradford, Kerry James Marshall, Tschabalala Self and Kara Walker are among the 49 artists featured in a sweeping new exhibit at the Phillips Collection called “Multiplicity: Blackness in Contemporary American Collage.” Described as the first large-scale exhibition dedicated to exploring collage by contemporary Black American artists, the show includes nearly 60 works displayed over three floors of the museum.
Since 1999, the Mousetrap DJ nights have been instrumental in bringing Britpop and indie pop to D.C. partygoers. It’s not quite a “retro night” since DJs Mark Zimin and Stereofaith play new tracks, but you should expect plenty of throwbacks from Belle & Sebastian to MGMT to Pulp and Blur.
