It was a bad night for the Conservatives - as these rather glum pictures show

are waking up to the worst performance in an election in decades with many seats in Nottinghamshire lost to the Labour Party, or Reform. Seats in Mansfield, Ashfield, Rushcliffe, Bassetlaw and Gedling went to other parties on a night when Labour secured a majority before 5am.

In Gedling Labour's Michael Payne won the seat over incumbent Tom Randall, with Reform picking up 13% of the vote, and Darren Henry lost Broxtowe for the Conservatives, with Juliet Campbell getting 40% of the vote for Labour. Again, Reform picked up 17% of the vote.Speaking at a victory rally in central London, new Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer told activists: “Change begins now.” He said: “We did it.

“And across our country, people will be waking up to the news, relief that a weight has been lifted, a burden finally removed from the shoulders of this great nation.
