South Australia’s health department has suspended 10 staff and is investigating more who may have accessed the patient records of Charlie Stevens, son of the state’s police commissioner, Grant Stevens. Charlie, 18, was killed in a hit-and-run crash during schoolies celebrations in South Australia’s southeast in November. He was initially transported to Flinders Medical Centre with a brain injury, but died a day later, surrounded by loved ones.
“We have robust policies and processes in place to ensure that staff are accessing appropriate information and conduct audits to ensure our polices are complied with. “Any staff member who has accessed information inappropriately will be subject to disciplinary processes, which may include termination of their employment.” South Australia Police said SA health had kept the Stevens family up to date with its investigation. “The Stevens family has no further comment,” a spokesperson said.
