Legendary punk rock band announces final album after more than 40 years together

Brian Linder | blinder@pennlive.comThe band announced on Instagram that it is preparing to drop its ninth and final album, “Smoke & Fiction,” on August 2. The band also announced its “The End Is Near” tour which is set to begin July 6 and wrap on Oct. 30.

That tour does have a pair of PA stops planned — Sept. 27 in Pittsburgh and Sept. 30 in Philadelphia. X first formed in 1977, and four of the band’s current members — John Doe, Exene Cervenka, Billy Zoom and D.J. Bonebrake have been with them through their entire run.Alan Jackson is retiring.
