MANILA, Philippines - While China’s encroaching patrols inside the exclusive economic zones of South China Sea claimants have become common, the recent track of its biggest coast guard ship has drawn the interest of analysts. The China Coast Guard’s so-called monster ship followed a maritime route akin to China’s 10-dash-line, an update to its previous nine-dash-line claim to nearly the entire SCS.

“Vietnam was largely spared this particular intrusive patrol,” Powell, also a retired colonel of the US Air Force, told INQUIRER.net. Powell also noted that the CCG’s biggest ship "took special care” to pass by “sensitive” locations like Ayungin and Panatag Shoal inside Philippine waters.
