CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Even after a six-times platinum debut album in 1997, Brad Hargreaves says he was so uncertain about his bandfuture that he moved to Los Angeles from the band’s home base in the San Francisco Bay Area, just in case.
Despite the inter-band tension Hargreaves mentioned, Third Eye Blind managed to avoid a bad sophomore slump with its sophomore album, “Blue,” in 1999. It was not quite the phenomenon of its predecessor, but it was still platinum and sold more than two million copies worldwide, and it launched another couple of hits -- “Never Let You Go” and “Deep Inside of You” -- that remain part of Third Eye Blind’s A-list canon.
Since then the band has been through more than 10 other musicians, releasing its seventh studio album, “Our Bande Apart,” back in 2021 as well as the acoustic “Unplugged” the following year. The same kind of commercial pressures no longer exist for Jenkins, Hargreaves and company, which the drummer says is only been to the band’s benefit.
