A Victorian paramedic rolled an ambulance into an embankment after working an 18-hour shift. The experienced paramedic started his shift last Wednesday at 7am and finished at 1.30am the following morning just across the border in Corowa, NSW.

He had just dropped his partner off in northeastern Victoria and was continuing home, driving at 90km/h, when he dozed off and veered off the road and down an embankment. The paramedic became trapped and was freed by another ambulance crew before he was flown to hospital. “ physically OK but really distressed about what’s happened,” Victorian Ambulance Union secretary Danny Hill said on Monday.
