Summary One Tree Hill was a quintessential part of the teen drama television genre, and always delivered big emotional moments, including the deaths of many beloved characters. The series ran from 2003 to 2012 for a total of nine seasons. When the show started, it revolved around the high school experience of the main characters but pivoted halfway through the series' run and followed the cast well into adulthood.

Nathan is the one who ends up killing Dimitri after he is rescued by his father Dan , but not before Dimitri can shoot Dan, which ultimately leads to his death. Dimitri is just a hired gun on the series, and no one in Tree Hill would miss him after everything he did. It's the fact that Nathan must come to terms with killing a man that makes his death have an impact.

Being killed by his boss was a low blow for the character. The most important part of this episode was that Nathan got home safe, and Dan was getting a satisfying conclusion as a character. It is a more tragic death since Billy is placed in the position to be murdered by someone else though. It appears at first that Nathan kills him when he beats him after the accident, but it was definitively the accident and the injuries from it that killed him. For the audience, Daunte's death was more shocking than sad. After all, any characters that went after Nathan and Haley and their family were typically hated by the fans of the show, so seeing them reach a sticky end made for more cathartic viewing and a conclusive story.

Though he never knew the residents of Tree Hill personally, Will's death is a moving moment for the show. He provides an emotional touchstone for the audience as an outsider to the antics of the main cast of characters, but he still acts as a guardian angel of sorts for Clay, walking him through different relationships in his single episode of the series. In the end, one of Will's kidneys is donated to clay and his gift keeps Clay alive, making Clay's survival particularly poignant.

Jimmy feels alienated by his peers and resorts to extreme measures, but he never hurts anyone except himself. He commits suicide in front of Keith , and later, Dan uses Jimmy's gun to murder Keith and frame Jimmy. Due to this, the students feel strange about properly mourning Jimmy at first, but once Dan reveals that he was the killer, Jimmy is absolved and the community feels his loss.
