A woman has died and a man known to her is in custody following an alleged rampage that also included a highway truck crash and carjacking attempt in Queensland’s north. The woman was found with life-threatening stab wounds at a home in Mighell, near Innisfail, about 4.15pm on Friday. First responders treated her at the scene but she could not be saved, Queensland Police said. A 51-year-old man known to the woman allegedly fled the property in a car before police arrived.
Just 15 minutes later the same car collided with a truck on the Bruce Hwy at Sandy Pocket, according to authorities. “The truck driver was not physically injured but the man in the vehicle allegedly fled the scene,” police said. The highway was closed as police searched for the man, who is accused of trying to steal another car from a woman nearby. She was not injured. Police were able to make an arrest near the highway at Sandy Pocket just after 6pm.
